LED special construction for giants of the seas
With Spectrum of the Seas℠, the first ocean cruiser of the Quantum Ultra class from Royal Caribbean International, the shipping company opted for an innovation in LED special construction from tennagels Medientechnik GmbH. High-resolution LED walls using the finest 1.9 mm pixel pitch create extraordinary depth effects which seem to merge with the architecture. The result are virtual colonnades and fascinating LED walls in the Main Dining Room on Deck 3 and Deck 4.
Enjoy with all your senses
Lighting installation is more than just a lighting concept. Only the creative interplay of state-of-the-art LED technology from tennagels Manufaktur and creative video content from Peter Millard and Partners Ltd from London has produced these unique lighting scenarios. Virtual dancers, swarms of butterflies and atmospheric colour changes accompany the guests on their way to the opulent dining room. 155 m² of concave and convex curved LED screens are used for the entrance and lounge areas. The curved LED cabinets fit in seamlessly and become the wave-shaped interior architecture of the Main Dining Room.
“This product required some research, but our parter tennagels has once again been able to prove that they are able to find a solution for our many creative desires. In this highly frequented area, the specially developed LED technology must be particularly well protected, and with more than 4000 passengers on the ship, it is important that it is washable after accidentally spilled liquids. In addition, the installation in this very challenging environment must be run reliably in 24/7 operation and dissipate very little heat. This LED signage solution with special design fulfills all these requirements and is therefore a real Game Changer.”

King class with entertainment experience
Royal Caribbean International sets completely new standards with the size of the mega-liner and the innovative entertainment for the whole family. The Spectrum of the Seas℠ offers comfortable space for 4,246 passengers over a length of about 350 m and 16 decks.
Following the transfer from Meyer shipyard in Papenburg on 20 March 2019, the ship moored in Eemshaven in the Netherlands, continued its course to Bremerhaven and started its maiden voyage from Barcelona to Asia on 18 April 2019.
The Royal Caribbean International’s premier class is meanwhile experiencing a wave of success with Asian travel enthusiasts. After a 47-day crossing, the ocean giant docked at the Wusongkou International Cruise Terminal in Shanghai, celebrating its official debut in China.
“For tennagels, it was a great honor and an even greater challenge, to develop and install a totally new product in such a short time. It took almost 5 months from the initial idea to the final installation. Therefore, we would like to express our special thanks to Royal Caribbean for the trust you have placed in us. The cooperation and mutual support of the tennagels, vision tools and Unilumin teams at this time- and requirement-critical project and the exchange of many years of experience between the cooperation partners in the field of LED and special solutions has reached its peak in a unique result and so far unique installation of this kind”.
