This year, tennagels Medientechnik GmbH built the first hybrid experience combining a submarine simulator, escape room and theme park ride on the Arvia<\/strong> cruise ship for its customer P&O Cruises<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the dry dock at Meyer Werft<\/strong> in Papenburg, a globally unique experience was created. With over 300 buttons, pushbuttons, sliders and design elements on ten work terminals, the crew (consisting of holiday guests on the cruise ship) immerse themselves in a mixed reality world. Through underwater canyons and sunken cities, the crew of up to ten people playfully experience an exciting underwater blockbuster and learn all about the underwater habitat along the way.<\/span><\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

As a crew of 6-10, the guests enter a fictitious marine research institute and set off on one of two simulated submarine missions with the director Dr Melissa Ryan and the captain of the submarine. In “Deep Sea Heroes”, the crew goes on a crime expedition and tries to solve the cold case surrounding a missing submarine and a mysterious signature from the deep sea, and in “Sunken City Explorers”, the crew starts a rescue mission for a small octopus that has lost its way in the sunken ruins.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

In addition to around 300 buttons, switches and many digital display elements, an armada of media technology is used. On more than 40 high-resolution displays, two VR cabins, 50 computers, a high-performance sound system, an LED cube with a pixel pitch of 1.6 mm and a hydraulic platform, the cruiser is sent on a long journey – with the aim <\/span>of telling his friends about the unique experience when he returns to one of the<\/span> Arvia’s<\/span><\/b> bars. <\/span><\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

At its heart, the simulator\/escape room consists of the so-called logic server, a media server master, three media server clients, a computer for the large map table and the score screen, two computers for the VR drone ride, a surface computer as a registration console and 27 industrial Raspberry Pis in a networked system, with the logic server taking control of the overall operation of the system and the running shows. The media server master receives commands from the logic server to start certain scenes and returns feedback at the end and during these scenes if the overall system needs to initiate further logical processes at the same time as media content.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

The eleven consoles in the room each contain one to three Raspberry Pis which monitor the numerous game elements, inputs and outputs and ensure that the embedded displays are played. The individual stations work autonomously and only communicate game-relevant information with the logic server and the rest of the system. Similarly, the map table communicates the current tasks and their progress, as well as the scoring information to be displayed.At the entrance area, a surface computer represents a small photo station where the crew members can register for the next show and are assigned their role.Opposite this, another Pi provides a display with an interface for monitoring the system. Here the staff can start shows, monitor the current status, query various diagnostic information and carry out administrative procedures.all these technical components and subsystems together ensure an interactive, immersive and atmospheric experience for the participants.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Six cruise ships are operated under the brand: typically British and absolutely traditional – this is what insiders appreciate about the ships of the P&O Cruises shipping company. The brand-new fleet member Arvia, the sister ship of the Iona, will also present itself in this way, offering up to 5,200 guests unforgettable moments on the high seas from the end of 2022.
