More InformationThose who choose to travel by sea know about the special moments: wonderful light, wonderful air and simply good relaxation, from which we draw strength long after the journey. All positive attributes that are further enhanced by the Odyssey of the Seas.
She is one of a total of five cruise ships in the Royal Caribbean International Quantum Class, which is simply in a class of its own. The spectacular architecture offers wonderful views: Whether with imaginative cuisine, special recreational concepts or advanced entertainment, travel takes on a new dimension. tennagels Medientechnik is particularly proud of Royal Caribbean International, which has realized a magnificent project.
"LED it be" made to measure
As on the Spectrum of the Seas, we were able to bring all our expertise to bear on the Odyssey of the Seas and help design extraordinary eye-catchers and experiences – with advanced special LED installations developed and installed especially for these cruise ships.
The Main Dining Room extends over two levels in both cruise ships and offers space for many guests. Passengers have access to this opulent dining room via two decks through a virtual colonnade, each 16 meters long, which is adapted to different themes and moods using various video animations. This very special effect is created on the LED walls of the CurveLED Flex P 1.95 product line from tennagels, which are specially made for these corridors. One special feature is the coating, which provides scratch protection, offers a wipe-clean surface and meets the hygiene requirements on cruise ships and in public areas. Secondly, the material is flexible because it is pliable and can therefore be adapted to any architecture, as in the Main Dining Room of the Odyssey of the Seas. The CurveLED Flex modules, which are curved both concavely and convexly, have a pixel pitch of 1.95 mm and a luminance of 700 nits for changing video content. The agency “International Corporate Art” has purchased this creative content, which was created by the artist “NIIO art for a digital age”.
On each deck, the LED walls on the left and right side of the aisle consist of 4.75 meter long, straight and 11.5 meter curved LED panels with a height of more than two meters. The straight walls of this installation offer a resolution of 2,432×1,088 pixels, the curved walls a resolution of 5,888×1,216 pixels. All LED cabinets from tennagels are mounted on a custom-made substructure.

On two decks of the main dining room, two further curved LED walls in the lounge corners at the opposite end of the hall create a very special atmosphere for guests. The identical screens have a width of 7 meters, a height of one meter and a resolution of 3,584×512 pixels. The total of 163 square meters of LED surfaces in the entrance areas and the two walls in the lounge corners are specially coated and washable. In the Seaplex, the LED wall from tennagels is 6 meters long and 3.5 meters wide, and has a resolution of 1,536×896 pixels.
Five ocean liners, one spectacular architecture
The Odyssey of the Seas is one of a total of five cruise ships in the Royal Caribbean International Quantum Class. At almost 348 meters, the cruise ship is in a class of its own. With large glazed areas at the rear, for example, which offer a 270-degree view. In addition, the Quantum Class ships are so-called smartships, which are online around the clock thanks to their own satellite. And the North Star is a glass gondola suspended from an extendable and swiveling arm, from which you can gaze into the distance from a height of up to 90 meters. There is also a skydiving simulator and a multi-storey entertainment area. Splendid construction with our multimedia technology, the LED screens in the Main Dining Room and in the Seaplex.

The corona effect in the construction phase
The biggest challenge in this project was the logistics. As a result, the long and complex process of building the ship took over a year and a half. The preparation alone took 6 months and the installation 12 months. Of course, Corona played a major role and the associated delays and quarantine regulations. All in all, however, we can be proud of the entire tennagels team, which proved to be resilient and solution-oriented. What was fun for us? The coordination of the project with many other companies and trades (shipbuilding, steel construction, interior finishing companies, electrical engineering, architects, media production) and precisely this unique environment and its dimensions. We were all very inspired and motivated to deliver exceptional results.
