Royal Caribbean International
With Spectrum of the Seas℠, the first cruise ship in Royal Caribbean International's Quantum Ultra class, the shipping company opted for an innovation in special LED construction from tennagels Medientechnik GmbH. High-resolution LED walls with the finest 1.9mm pixel pitch create unique depth effects that seem to merge with the architecture. The result is virtual colonnades and fascinating LED walls in the Main Dining Room on Deck 3 and Deck 4.
Special LED construction for giants of the seas
Enjoy with all your senses
The lighting installation is more than just a lighting concept. It was the creative interplay of state-of-the-art LED technology from tennagels Manufaktur and creative video content from Peter Millard and Partners Ltd from London that created these unmistakable lighting scenarios. Virtual dancers, swarms of butterflies and atmospheric color changes accompany guests on their way to the opulent dining room. A total of 155 m² of concave and convex curved LED screens design the entrance and lounge area. The curved LED cabinets blend seamlessly into one another and become the undulating interior design of the Main Dining Room.
“This product required a lot of research, but our partner tennagels proved once again that they are able to find a solution to our many creative requests. In this highly frequented area, the specially developed LED technology must be particularly well protected, and with more than 4000 passengers on the ship, it must also be washable after accidental spills. In addition, the installation must run reliably 24/7 in this very demanding environment and have very low heat emission. This specially designed LED signage solution meets all these criteria and is a real game changer.”

Premium class with entertainment experience
Royal Caribbean International is setting completely new standards with the size of its mega-liners and innovative entertainment for the whole family. The Spectrum of the Seas℠ offers comfortable space for 4,246 passengers on a length of around 350 m and 16 decks.
After being transferred from the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg on March 20, 2019, the ship moored in Eemshaven in the Netherlands, continued on its course to Bremerhaven and set off on its maiden voyage to Asia from Barcelona on April 18, 2019.
Royal Caribbean International’s premier class is now riding the wave of success among travel enthusiasts exploring Asia. After a 47-day crossing, the ocean liner docked at the Wusongkou International Cruise Terminal in Shanghai, marking its official debut in China.
“For tennagels, it was a great honor and an even greater challenge to develop and install a completely new product in such a short time. It took just under 5 months from the initial idea to the finished installation. Our special thanks therefore go to Royal Caribbean for the trust they have placed in us. The cooperation and mutual support of the tennagels, vision tools and Unilumin teams in this time- and requirement-critical project and the exchange of many years of experience between the cooperation partners in the field of LED and special solutions has culminated in a unique result and the only installation of its kind in the world to date.
