WILOPARK Dortmund: An industrial construction project of superlatives

The world market leader in pumps and pump systems is realising one of the largest industrial construction projects at the new WILOPARK company headquarters in Dortmund. The new Factory, the Pioneer Cube and, most recently, the Networking Cube have been built on an area of over 20 hectares.

The new building, known as the “Networking Cube” and due for completion in May 2024, will be the gateway for customers to WILO World. Not only are presentations and lectures held here, but exhibitions, product presentations and factory tours are also possible. Tennagels Medientechnik was commissioned with the conception and integration of the complex and innovative media technology in close co-operation with Mehnert Corporate Design. The aim was to create an immersive experience for customers and viewers without losing sight of the flexibility for different types of space utilisation.

Networking Cube - a space that offers more than just technology.

It is the magic of the room that impresses: 75 invisible loudspeakers create immersive 3D sound worlds, white walls that transform into colorful walls and perfect the room acoustics, as well as warm or cold lighting that pulses in sync with the content.

Multitouch-capable LED walls that respond to gestures in real time, automated cameras and lighting that follow every step of the speaker, and rendered content that seamlessly follows the movement – all this creates an experience that is more than just a meeting room.

The Networking Cube shows how technology and design can merge and create unforgettable experiences.

A visual spectacle with a 50-million-pixel LED wonder

The core element in the new Networking Cube, the 45 x 4.25 metre LED screen, is probably the first thing that catches the viewer’s eye on entering. More than 50 million pixels form a high-resolution digital screen that is seamlessly integrated into the room and puts the viewer right in the centre of the action.

The screen is framed by wall cladding elements that were specially designed and produced for this project. These not only clad the concrete walls, they also improve the acoustics in the room by reducing the reverberation time and, together with the LED backlighting, form the next design element in the Networking Cube.

Seemingly inconspicuous, yet distributed throughout the entire room, around 75 loudspeakers are used in conjunction with complex algorithms to provide an immersive 3D audio experience. Together with the surrounding LED screen, they inspire the audience.

Three high-performance cameras with automated speaker tracking are available for events, which can also be used for streaming and recording.

Revolutionary event technology: tennagels Medientechnik transforms LED screens

For example, tennagels Medientechnik has installed appropriate sensor technology and software for gesture control to present its own products in an appealing way. Six electrically extendable sensors transform the “simple” LED screen into a full-surface, touch-sensitive large-format display. With three-dimensional scanning throughout the room, individual people on stage or groups of people can be captured via tracking software. Nine high-performance effect spotlights in the ceiling provide more options for scenic room design. These can be used for room lighting, exhibitions or product presentations as well as for connection to the sensor system for tracking the presenter.

A wide range of interfaces and additional mobile hardware are available for effective and flexible use of the space, even for larger events. The technicians have access to several wireless microphones, mobile displays and connection boxes as well as a fully equipped and mobile control room for video, lighting and sound operators. The furniture for the control room, designed according to customer requirements, comes from tennagels’ own joinery and is carefully manufactured to the highest quality standards.

Facts

The project was carried out between November 2023 and April 2024. As part of the installation, 75 loudspeakers and 4 racks with air conditioning for the server systems were installed. A total of 4 media servers are used, including tennagels servers for gesture control, configuration and lighting control. In addition, 9 lamps for effect lighting and 6 sensors for gesture control are installed.
