Star of the Seas – innovative technology and maritime architecture

Customised lighting, sound and video technology transforms entertainment on the high seas. For the second time, tennagels has created a symbiosis of innovative technology and maritime architecture - in the Aquadome of the Star of the Seas.

Royal Caribbean International has commissioned MEYER TURKU to build three new ocean liners. The second new ship in the Icon class is again being built in Turku, Finland.

tennagels Medientechnik GmbH was also awarded the contract for the detailed design, procurement, installation and commissioning of the entire lighting, sound and video technology in the ship’s prestige theatre, the Aquadome.
The Aquadome is characterised in particular by the unique architecture of the dome itself, as well as the deep indoor pool and the two striking diving towers, which are also fully integrated into the water shows. In addition, movable stage machinery is installed inside the pool and water features can be created from various fountains and openings.

The project officially began for tennagels in January 2024, with significant preliminary work in the planning phase having already taken place in 2023. The company will continue to cultivate tennagel’s attitude and way of working towards a cooperative, solution-orientated performance on site, which is essential for achieving the common goal.

The Star of the Seas will be delivered in 2025.
